Arabian Nights pattern out now…

About a few years ago, I designed the Medina Mosaic Tiles, a pattern displaying the beautiful mosaic art found in the medinas throughout the Middle East. I have always been fascinated by Islamic geometric art, and it always intrigues me to discover new designs and motifs out of these wonderfully decorated walls and ceilings – primarily found in mosques. So, after the Medina mosaic tiles, I still had plenty of inspiration left on my mood board, and there was also the twelve-pointed star motif. It took me a long time to translate this motif into a crochet pattern, but finally, I was so happy with the result, which you can find in this pattern – Arabian Nights.

The pattern is made with Scheepjes Catona – a unmercerized cotton type that comes in balls of 10, 25, and 50 grams. For this pattern, this is ideal as the motifs are basically built up out of five colors, of which you all need small amounts. Besides these five colors for each motif, there are two basic colors – black and white. I created 7 different color combinations for the motifs. As there are a lot of colors used, please refer to the pattern to see all the details of how they are combined and which color belongs to which motif. I will give you a color-picking list with totals here:

    1. The type of yarn you use for the pattern doesn’t matter that much. It doesn’t affect the tension or stitch work in anyway. I just chose the fingering weighted cotton as I wanted to use many colors which this brand offers. So, no problem at all and pick to work with whatever works for you!
