Spice Market CAL Part 9

Part 9

Well we’re near the end of this CAL and the Rounds are getting bigger and bigger. You may have noticed that already and that’s why next part is a bit smaller, but it will cost the same amount of work comparing it to other parts. In this part we again are gonna do some mosaic crochet. It is a smaller part but it is actually the same technique as we used in previous parts. What you are gonna create is the infinity stripe, a never-ending line pattern. This is also a perfect design to add in this pattern as the origin of this pattern can be found in Persian decorations. Some say it came out of the Greek mythology, but the founding of this design lays in Persia. It doesn’t matter that much as nowadays we see this kind of decoration a lot on tajine’s, pottery and even carpets and jewelry. All items that can be found on the spice markets. Enjoy this weeks design !

Some important rules that apply on mosaic crochet : all Rounds are made on right side of the work.

– All sc’s are made in the back loop of a st except the ones you crochet in the corner ch2-sps.

– All dc’s you crochet are being made in the front loop of the stitch two Rounds below. So as example, if you have to crochet a dc on Round 4, you make this dc in the front loop of the stitch beneath it on Round 2. In the pattern i just wrote down ….in flo, this always means two Rounds down.

– An easy way to simplify this all is that you crochet most of the Rounds in same colored Rounds.

– The mosaic Rounds are written shorter than others. When there is written 5SC in BLO – it means you make 1SC in back loop of next 5 sts – so not 5SC in 1 st.

– Besides that you can just change between the colors in this part without having to fasten it off each time. See the tips and tricks part for more information about it.

-If you make a dc in the flo with mosaic crochet, you always skip the st behind it on the current Round.

From this part on up til the end of Part 10 we only use Colors A and B. This means you may have 6 colors left with a spare amount. Although the yarn amounts are based on the original pattern, if you like to color up this part, you could also change Round 2 and 4 of this part into a different color out of the 6 you have left. In the Lavender and Mint version you could see how this might look. This is just a adjustment you could make, it is not necessary and if you don’t like it, just continue the original pattern.

Round 1 (RS) : Take Color B and attach it in any ch2-sp. CH1 (doesn’t count as st here and throughout entire part), * {1SC-CH2-1SC} in ch2-sp, 1SC in BLO of each st along side til next ch2-sp. Rep from * 3 more times. SS in top of first st. Put Color B aside. [4 sides of 2SC/220SC in BLO and 4 times a CH2-sp]

End of Part 9. You can keep Color B attached to the work as we will continue next week with it in exactly the same place as it is right now. See you next week to finish your creation !
