Spice Market CAL Part 1

Part 1

It is time to begin our exotic journey through spice markets and middle-Eastern parts of our world. We will start off with the centre of the blanket which is designed as a Persian eight-pointed star. A design that you will see in many designs in souks, ancient places and mosques.The centre of the blanket is also like the central marketplace where all colors, structures and shapes come together. It will be the eye-catcher of this pattern. Along the first three weeks you shall create the entire centre part, starting with this first part.

If you want to check which color belongs to which abbreviation, please check the Materials file to see the color list for each version.

Take the hooksize you need for your chosen yarn and Color C to start with.

Make a magic loop or ch6 and close it by making a ss in first ch.

Round 1 (RS) : CH1 (doesn’t count as st), 8SC in ring. SS in top of first st. [8SC]

Round 2 : CH5 ( first DC + CH2 ), ( 1DC in next st, CH2 ) 7 times. SS in third CH to connect. Fasten off yarn. [8DC/8 times a CH2-sp]

Round 3 : Take Color E and attach it in any dc. CH4 ( first DC + CH1 ), 1PC in next ch2-sp, CH1, ( 1DC in next st, CH1, 1PC in next ch2-sp, CH1 ) 7 times. SS in third CH to connect. Fasten off yarn. [8PC/8DC/16 times a CH1-sp]

Round 4 : Take Color B and attach it in any dc. CH1 (doesn’t count as st), * 1SC in dc, {HDC-DC-TR} in next ch1-sp, CH1, sk pc, {TR-DC-HDC}  in next ch1-sp. Rep from * 7 more times. SS in top of first st. Fasten off yarn. [8 gr of SC/HDC/DC/TR/CH1/TR/DC/HDC]

Round 5 : Take Color A and attach it in any ch1-sp. CH1 (doesn’t count as st), * {1SC-CH2-1SC} in ch1-sp, 1SC in next 7 sts. Rep from * 7 more times. SS in top of first st. Fasten off yarn. [72SC/8 times a CH2-sp]

Round 6 : Take Color B and attach it in any ch2-sp. CH1 (doesn’t count as st), * {1SC-CH2-1SC} in ch2-sp, 1SC in next 3 sts, SC3TOG over next 3 sts, 1SC in next 3 sts. Rep from * 7 more times. SS in top of first st. Fasten off yarn. [64SC/8 times a SC3TOG / 8 times a CH2-sp]

Round 7 : Take Color G and attach it in any ch2-sp. CH1 (doesn’t count as st), * {1SC-CH2-1SC} in ch2-sp, 1SC in next 3 sts, CH5, sk 3 sts, 1SC in next 3 sts. Rep from * 7 more times. SS in top of first st. SS to next CH2-sp. [64SC/8 times a CH5-sp/8 times a CH2-sp]

Round 8 : CH1 (doesn’t count as st), * {1SC-CH2-1SC} in ch2-sp, 1SC in next st, sk 3 sts, CH1, (1DC in ch5-sp, CH1) 5 times, sk 3 sts, 1SC in next st. Rep from * 7 more times. SS in top of first st. Fasten off yarn. [32SC/8 gr of 5DC with CH1-sps between them / 8 times a CH2-sp]

In the next Rounds your work can become a bit out of shape or not be flat anymore, this is normal and will solve itself later on.

Round 9 : Take Color H and attach it in any ch2-sp. CH3 (first DC), 2DC in same sp, CH1,sk next 2 sts and next ch1-sp, (1PC in next ch1-sp between two dc’s, CH1) 4 times, sk next ch1-sp and next 2 sts, * 3DC in next ch2-sp, CH1, sk next 2 sts and next ch1-sp, (1PC in next ch1-sp between two dc’s, CH1) 4 times, sk next ch1-sp and next 2 sts. Rep from * 6 more times. SS in top of first st. [8 gr of 3DC/8gr of 4PC with ch1-sps between them]

Round 10 :  starting in first dc of a 3dc-gr – CH3 (first DC), 1DC in same st, CH2, sk st, 2DC in next st, CH1, (1PC in next ch1-sp between 2 pc’s, CH1) 3 times. * 2DC in first dc of a 3dc-gr, CH2, sk st, 2DC in next st, CH1, (1PC in next ch1-sp between 2pc’s, CH1) 3 times. Rep from * 6 more times. SS in top of first st. [8gr of 2DC-CH2-2DC/8gr of 3PC with ch1-sps between them]

Round 11 : starting in first dc of a 2dc-ch2-2dc gr – CH3 (first DC), 1DC in same st, 1DC in next st, {1DC-CH2-1DC} in next ch2-sp, 1DC in next st, 2DC in next st, CH1, (1PC in next ch1-sp between 2 pc’s, CH1) twice. * 2DC in first dc of 2dc-ch2-2dc gr, 1DC in next st, {1DC-CH2-1DC} in next ch2-sp, 1DC in next st, 2DC in next st, CH1, (1PC in next ch1-sp between 2 pc’s, CH1) twice. Rep from * 6 more times. SS in top of first st. [8 gr of 4DC-CH2-4DC/8 gr of 2PC with ch1-sps between them]

Round 12 : starting in first dc of a 4dc-ch2-4dc gr – CH3 (first DC), 1DC in same st, 1DC in next 3 sts, {2DC-CH1-2DC} in next ch2-sp, 1DC in next 3 sts, 2DC in next st, CH1, sk ch1-sp, 1PC in ch1-sp between 2 pc’s, CH1, sk ch1-sp. * 2DC in next st, 1DC in next 3 sts, {2DC-CH1-2DC} in next ch2-sp, 1DC in next 3 sts, 2DC in next st, CH1, sk ch1-sp, 1PC in ch1-sp between 2 pc’s, CH1, sk ch1-sp. Rep from * 6 more times. SS in top of first st. Fasten off yarn. [8 gr of 7DC-CH1-7DC/8PC]

Round 13 : Take Color B and attach it in any ch1-sp. CH1 (doesn’t count as st), * 3SC in ch1-sp, 1SC in next 7 sts, 1SC in ch1-sp, 1SC in pc, 1SC in ch1-sp, 1SC in next 7 sts. Rep from * 7 more times. SS in top of first st. Fasten off yarn. [160SC]

In the next Round we make DTR’S in the ch2-sp on Round 10.. In each ch2-sp you will make 2 DTR, eventually one from both sides and they will form a diamond shaped form. Make sure to recognize the right ch2-sp to work in or your stitches might be to long or short. You can also see photo 14 to 14-4 in the photo section where the stitches need to be made in.

Round 14 : Take Color A and attach it in any middle sc of a 3sc-gr. CH1, (doesn’t count as st), * 3SC in middle sc of 3sc-gr, 1SC in next 2 sts, 1DTR in ch2-sp of Round 10 that lies beneath it,  sk st behind DTR, 1SC in next 13 sts, 1DTR in ch2-sp of Round 10 that lies beneath it, sk st behind DTR, 1SC in next 2 sts. Rep from * 7 more times. SS in top of first st. Fasten off yarn. [160SC/16DTR]

Round 15 : Take Color B and attach it in any middle sc of a 3sc-gr. CH1 (doesn’t count as st), * 3SC in middle sc of 3sc-gr, 1SC in next 21 sts. Rep from * 7 more times. SS in top of first st. Fasten off yarn. [192SC]
